The Georgios Amargianakis Archive belongs to the Theatre, Film and Music Laboratory of the Department of Philology of the University of Crete. The material comes from the significant teaching and research work (1984-1990) of the late Professor Georgios Amargianakis (1938-2003) at the University of Crete. The archive contains manuscripts and audio-visual primary ethnographic material (recordings, interviews, photographs), derived from field ethnographic research by Georgios Amargianakis and his students on the traditional music of Crete. The archive also contains printed material (books, course deliveries, concert programmes, newspaper and magazine cuttings, etc.) and secondary audio-visual material (speeches, concerts, recordings, student theater and music performances, conferences, etc.). The archive offers rich material not only on the traditional music of Crete, but also on the musical life of Rethymnon at that time.
